Cyst Operations (Surgery)
Cysts
Jaw cysts, especially when they become large, can be dangerous in different ways, from jaw fractures to serious infections. Cysts, whose causes are mostly of dental origin, grow by resorbing the jawbone where they are located, sometimes pushing the roots of nearby teeth, causing disruption in the tooth structure and affecting different important anatomical formations depending on their location. For example, when they grow into the maxillary sinus, they can cause a significant reduction in the volume of the sinus cavity. Sometimes, in a region close to the lower jaw nerve, they can cause numbness or tingling sensation by compressing the nerve. Early detection and removal of cysts is advantageous in many ways. Since the area to be surgically intervened for small cysts will also be small, the risk of surgical complications is reduced. Sometimes it is even possible to get rid of the cyst by simply extracting the affected tooth. Since the cyst does not grow much, it is less likely to damage nearby teeth and other anatomical formations. Surgical intervention will be easier. When the deformation caused by the cyst is relatively small, there will be no need to place a bone graft in the removed cyst cavity. Although cyst operations vary depending on the size and localization, they can mostly be performed under local anesthesia. Just like tooth extraction, after anesthesia is conducted, the relevant area is surgically opened and the cyst epithelium in the bone is scraped and removed from the area. If necessary, the cyst cavity is filled with bone graft.
